We are negotiating with Cigna Health and Blue Cross-Blue Shield, as a non profit to offer coverage to people as long as they are either listed members or associates of Gender ID Coalition. The coverage includes therapy, hormones, sex reassignment surgery at our direction as plan(s). This coverage follows the models founded by AARP and UCLA and other University systems' alumnus-associate coverage. We will continue the push to finalize this.

CIGNA has officially contracted with the Gender ID Coalition acting as a non profit carrier for health insurance that can provided to members.The plan will include initial PPO supplemental coverage and is mobile, meaning that qualifying GIDC (Gender ID Coalition) members can be almost covered anywhere within the US. The plan will cover sex reassignment surgery, hormone replacement therapies and limited coverage for psychotherapy on a case by case basis. Coverage begins 30 days after both membership and insurance applications are approved. A monthly payment (initially proposed to CIGNA: $25.00) is paid directly to CIGNA, GIEC will carry the deductible for now.
**News update - August 2010:
Things are on hold for now until further notice. CIGNA is reviewing issues and questions within the language within a group policy, that we've pointed out. Hopefully, we will be able to provide a policy that can cover most cover a large percentage of transitional procedures and related expenses.

Organizational membership is open and free to all.
The only cost involves applying for optional supplemental Trans Health insurance and approval for coverage. Any monthly fee of course, must be paid to the provider (ie: CIGNA, Blue Cross/Blue Shield etc).
